Research Institute for Energy and Mines received aid from the UNIDO project

The handover ceremony of the aid equipment was officially held on the morning of October 25, 2022 at the Energy and Mining Research Institute between Mr. Phouvieng Kebouppha, Director General of the Research Institute for Energy and Mines and Mr. Jossy Thomas, UNIDO Project Manager, with the presence of Mr. Thongkhan Phimvilai, Director of the Organizing Department and staff, representatives from the Ministry’s office, departments, institutions and state-owned enterprises around the Ministry, along with managers and experts from the UNIDO organization.​

The equipment provided by the UNIDO project is equipment to be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial sector by using biomass production technology under the aid program from the World Environment Fund which has been implemented since 2016. Under this cooperation project, UNIDO also helped to establish Biomass Technology Information and Learning Center in 2018 with the aim of building capacity for the Biomass Technology Information and Learning Center to become a center of excellence in providing biomass information and services, especially biomass pellet technology to the public sector, international organizations and the private sector. At the same time, UNIDO also helped build personnel to upgrade and technological skills, energy audits in salt factories operated by UNIDO.

Mr. Jossy Thomas, UNIDO project manager, said: In the future, UNIDO will build a laboratory on biomass technology as well as procure equipment for this project for the Energy and Mining Research Institute to use it efficiently and effectively. Currently, the Institute of Energy and Mineral Research has the necessary tools including: a calorimeter and its accessories, a mini pelletizer for laboratory demonstration.
